Ludo appeared in our garden at the start of the year. He would come in and eat my cats food, and just stay in the garden day and night. I was able to befriend him, and trapped him to check for a chip. He didn’t have one – the vet advertised for his owner but no one came forward. The vet advised that they would pass him to our local cat rescue unless we wanted him. My partner and I had already discussed this and decided against it as we have 5 rescue cats – Ludo and two of my boys had taken a great dislike to each other.
However, Ludo was in the vet for 2 weeks while this was taking place and he reacted very badly to his surroundings. He was very scared, bitey and scratchy. The vet said they didn’t think the rescue would be able to re-home him and asked again if we would take him. We took him as I couldn’t bear to see him unhappy or back on the streets.
We tried very hard to make all the cats feel settled together, kept Ludo apart when needed, etc, etc. but 5 months later there is still tension between Ludo and JonJon, resulting in fights and injuries, and JonJon literally hiding and sneaking around, very unhappy.
For both their sakes we feel it’s best for Ludo to go to a new, loving home where he can be the only cat. He LOVES having a home, but wants it to be just him and his humans! He is a lovely chap who will come and greet you when you get home, chirping to announce his presence. He likes to be stroked on the head and under the chin, and loves snoozing on the sofa. I can pick him up if I stand to his side (not directly over him). He will go in a carrier and behaves at the vet. I love him to bits but I have to do what’s best for everyone.
He can be a little feisty, sometimes if you stroke him ‘too much’ he may have a nibble, and he will sometimes swipe at you if he thinks you might step on him.
He needs to be the only cat in the house, with cat savvy humans!! He has bitten me once, hard enough for me to need antibiotics. I was trying to prevent a fight! His new humans will need to have patience with him – to get to know him I literally just sat on the floor while he had his dinner, and I would offer treats. He finally came up to me – his new owner may need to do this again, as he won’t know the people or the surroundings.
He loves going outside but also loves being inside snoozing. He has a kicker toy which will go with him!
He needs new humans who will not give up on him if he scratches them or seems difficult at first – he is so lovely but sometimes just seems not to know what to do in situations. The vet advised he is strong and healthy, and his coat has got a lot softer since he started living with us. I’m sorry this is so long!!!
